That's a good question. Seasons are usually caused by a planet's axial tilt. As the planet goes round the Sun, the tilt affects the heat received at a particular place on the planet. But the tilt of Mercury's axis is almost zero. So it doesn't have normal seasons. However there are still variations in the climate because Mercury's orbit is a long way from being circular. There's a big difference between when it's nearest the Sun and when it's furthest away from the Sun.
