Edwin Hubble did not discover any planets. He is most famous for demonstrating that the "spiral nebulae" were, in fact, other galaxies lying far outside the Milky Way, and for discovering the relationship between redshift (= recessional velocity) of galaxies and their distances.

∙ 9y agoIn 1929, Edwin Hubble began measuring the distances as well as the movements of other galaxies. By doing this, he discovered that the universe was expanding. The famous Hubble Space Telescope is named after Edwin Hubble.

∙ 7y agoHe discovered two things: that Andromeda was too far away and thus could not be inside our galaxy (which was then believed to be the entire universe) like other known nebulas and it had a surprisingly large redshift to its spectrum meaning it was moving rapidly away from us.
Later observations showing that many other nebula like Andromeda also could not be in our galaxy and had large redshifts he developed an equation relating those redshifts to distances, called Hubble's Law.
