Bindweed, lamb's quarters, and plantain are plants on which aphids live. The insects in question (Aphidoideasuperfamily) favor mating and sheltering on native plants which have reputations as weeds because of unappreciated or unknown benefits to humankind. They leave their homes to feed upon nearby edibles and ornamentals, to the delight of voracious ladybug beetles and the dismay of farmers, gardeners, and orchardists.

Aphids normally live on plants that have soft stems or leaves (as they have piercing mouthpieces), and which are actively growing, as they have a high concentration of nitrogen in them - which the aphids require for their growth cycles.
