Katmai is most famous for its grizzly bears. Other mammals include the moose, caribou, red fox, wolf, lynx, wolverine, river otter, mink, marten, weasel, porcupine, snowshoe hare, red squirrel, and beaver. Along the coast are sea lions, sea otters, and hair seals, porpoise, with beluga, killer, and gray whales. Salmon run the river, where the grizzlies catch and eat them.
