Polk also supported and signed the Oregon Treaty with Great Britain, peacefully giving the US Oregon, Washington. and parts of Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. Additionally, he, unlike much of America, supported the Mexican-American war. Since Polk was a Democrat, and Democrats had a lot of supporters in the South, President Polk was pretty much guaranteed to support slavery as well.
