Well, when factories make pollution(smoke), it mixes in with the water cycle. So the smoke and water create acid rain. it can destroy limestone and trees. And Lakes are toxic to swim in. Or I think it can go in a puddle or pool of water and get evaporated. That also gets mixed in with the water cycle.
