Parallel Port-Most common uses are to connect older printers to the computer
A parallel port can be used to connect a large number of devices. The most common usage was for printers, although scanners, external disk drives, and network adapters also used this port. With a special cable, two computers could also be connected directly for sharing files.
I haven't heard of printers being connected by ftp (using port 21/22).
Typically, modern printers connect using USB. You will need to find a free USB port on your computer to plug it in. Older printers (as well as decreasing numbers of newer printers) connect via a parallel port. A parallel port is a somewhat rectangular port (rounded edges) with two rows of sockets (25 sockets in all). To see a graphic of a parallel port, go here: http:/images.google.com/images?q=paralell+port
This is a 25 pin cable, usually used to connect a printer to your computer (parallel port). Most printers connect using the USB cable anymore, as other external devices.
It depends on the cable used to connect the two. Some older printers need a parallel port to attach to.
If the printer is of an older type that has the appropriate logic circuits, connectors and compatiible printer driver software, a parallel port and/or a serial portcan be used if they are available on the pc.
parallel ports are used for old style printers or hardware to connect to due to the popularity and speed of usb is prefered over parallel as most printers nowadays are usb
using a usb cable which is a connection between the computer and the printer only or wirelessly which means everyone on the network can use the printer but only if computer and printer is wireless
It's called "network printer". Such printers usually have either wireless or LAN interface.
An IBM PC parallel port used to be a standard socket on many computers used to connect to printers, scanners, and other such devices equipped with a Centronics port socket. However this kind of interface is now generally considered to be obsolete and almost no computer or device uses it anymore. USB has replaced it on most computers and devices and most modern printers, scanners, and other such devices are now network compatible (e.g. EtherNet, WiFi) and can transfer data much faster than the old parallel port was capable of.
A wireless print server is a device which will enable you to share your USB or Parallel port printer on a wireless or wired network. The print server can be configured to connect to an existing wireless network and can then be connected to the printer via the USB or Parallel port, once this has been done the printer should be available for use on any computer on the network.
