Answer: Vernon, NJ Vernon, NJ seems to have the statistical average of coldest town in the state of New Jersey. This doesn't mean this is also the place in the state where the coldest temperature reading occurred. But just by averages, over many years, Vernon seems to be the coldest town in the whole state of New Jersey. And it makes sense that Vernon is also in the far Northeastern corner of the state, too. With so many towns so close together in a relatively small county within New Jersey, the local geography determines which town will be the coldest, such as elevation and the presence of large hills or mountains, et cetera, as opposed to the basic latitude and longitude, distance from the equator, or being close to a coast, et cetera.
