Maximilien Robespierre was an extremist Jacobian who took control of the National Convention and the Committee of Public Safety in France in 1793. He used this position of power to target those who were at odds with his own belief system. It is believed that 15,000 to 50,000 people were beheaded during what was called The Reign of Terror.
