It is not accurate or fair to definitively say that one ancient civilization was "smarter" than another, as intelligence is a complex and multifaceted trait that cannot be easily measured or compared across different cultures. Each of the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas had their own unique advancements in areas such as architecture, astronomy, mathematics, and agriculture, demonstrating their sophisticated knowledge and skills in various fields. It is important to appreciate and study the achievements of each civilization within their respective historical and cultural contexts rather than trying to rank them in terms of intelligence.
The people who ruled and established the city of Tenochtitlan were the Aztecs. They are also known as the mexica people, which where the name Mexico comes from.
Due to the climate and landscape in many areas of North America, Native American populations were able to move around and not worry about drought or a lack of food. For this reason, you will not find many large kingdoms or empires in North America like you would with the Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs in Central America and the Inca South America.
Mayan civilizations built pyramids at present-day southern Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, and the Yucatán Peninsula. They mostly lived on the high areas of the land and built their structures there.

There was only one civilization that existed on the Tigris and Euphrates River. That civilization was Mesopotamia. There were three other civilizations that existed in other areas. These civilizations were the Egyptians, the Longshan, and the Harappa.
The Mayan civilization would have been most likely to have been found in a rainforest region, as their territories stretched across present-day Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador - areas with lush rainforests. The Mayans were known for their advanced agricultural practices in the rainforest environment.
The Aztecs and mayans both used pyramids for the same thing. One use was human sacrifices and also for barrels for the chief of the tribe and reincarnated "god and goddesses". But kept both areas separated
Well, honey, it's simple math. The Mayas were chilling in the Yucatán Peninsula, while the Aztecs were throwing parties in the Valley of Mexico. It's like comparing apples and oranges, they were just doing their own thing in different neighborhoods. So, of course, there's gonna be little overlap in their land areas.

There are theories that state the Aztecs lived in areas where quality gold was found. It is believed they accumulated gold from the mineral deposits.
