Franklin Delano Roosevelt loved to have candles on a Christmas tree. When he was a boy there were no electric lights for Christmas trees and when he grew older, trees with electric lights just did not seem right.

Franklin Roosevelt had candles on his White House tree because that is what his mother had when he was a boy and a tree with electric lights on it just did not seem like a real Christmas tree to him.
