The English Channel (la Manche) forms a physical boundary between English and French territory in Europe after the Hundred Years War with England being north of the channel and France being south of it. In North America, prior to the Seven Years War, the Appalachian Mountains separated the English colonies and the French colonies with the English colonies being to the east of the mountains and the French colonies to the west. French Indochina and British Burma were separated by the Mekong River with British Burma lying to west and French Indochina lying to the east.
