Prison in Hanoi. Mc Cain was held there
Hanoi Hilton
Hoa Loa or Hanoi Hilton.
McCain was a POW for over 5 years in a Prisoner of War camp near the capital of Hanoi in North Vietnam. The POW camp was nicknamed, the "Hanoi Hilton."
It was a prison in Vietnam used first by the french and later by the north vietnamese. In the related links box below I posted the Hanoi Hilton article wich has a picture and much more information.
Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel was created in 1999.
How about Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator John McCain. He was shot down over Hanoi, North Vietnam and held in the "Hanoi Hilton" prison for 5 1/2 years.
The "Hanoi Hilton" was not a hotel. It was a "nick-name" for a (concrete building) prison in Hanoi (the capital of N. Vietnam), were US POW's were kept. Nearly all of whom were airmen who had been shot down while bombing or strafing targets in North Vietnam. Very few US POW's were transported from the South to the North.
John McCain was imprisoned in the "Hanoi Hilton," which was the nickname given to Hoa Lo Prison in Hanoi, Vietnam. He was held there as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1973.
Son Tay Prison was the scene of the failed rescue attempt (the prisoners had been relocated prior to the raid). Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) held POW's John McCain (Presidential Candidate) & James Stockdale (former Vice Presidential Candidate)...and was toured by Actress (Hanoi Jane) Jane Fonda.

Prisoner of War (POW) camps dotted North Vietnam (as they did in South Vietnam). The Hanoi Hilton was but one of them. It, like nearly all of the POW camps located in North Vietnam, contained shot down US airmen.
