The Cuban revolution came about in an effort to oust Batista, who had deep ties to organized crime, and battle the high rate of unemployment and unsatisfactory water infrastructure in the country. Castro attempted to challenge Batista in the courts, but due to the strong system the president had in place, this proved futile. With no other options, Castro took the route of Revolution.
