All professions make money in WoW, especially the gathering professions. BS/Mining do make money but it takes a long time to grind them. And BSing takes awhile to start making a good profit. If you just need gold then I suggest two gathering professions, then you can drop on and level up BSing later, or just selling the ores you get. The ores sell for alot, because of people that power grind BSing and/or Jewel-crafting.
Well, just do quests to make money and sell the rewards, or do your professions and sell the mats on the AH to make money. If you really desperately need it, ask a guildy or a friend for it.
Do your dailies, use professions, play the ah. Mining and Herbalism currently are the big professions to have with skinning a real close second. The crafting proffessions require more work to make money at.

Crafting professions (such as blacksmithing, alchemy, and tailoring) can also be lucrative, as players will often pay for items they need or want. No one is going to pay someone a lot of money for either their knowledge or experience if they have none, Many people get this through college or by working their way up in a trade or skill. Most professions at the higher levels are good paying jobs and the only way to shortcut the long climb up the ladder of responsibility and compensation is to get the college education and start half way up. If you have the gift, you can make big money as a commissioned sales person. But if you make a million dollars for yourself, you will make 2 or 3 million for your boss who has a college education.
