Ok. You can just call the program that makes game or other programs a editor. Its much more simple. Now it sounds like you've never done this before so I would start out with something very simple like Game Maker. Then I would move on to a BASIC language (DarkBASIC). Which requires you to program with code. Then I would move on to a C language (C , C# , C++) once you mastered BASIC. Once you mastered one language you can master them all. BASIC is fast and easy to learn but has restrictions when it comes to making programs , but it great for games. The C languages are more for computer programs (also called applications).
