Galileo Galilei first promoted a heliocentric solar system as a physical reality in his 1610 book, The Starry Messenger . Opponents, both academic and ecclesiastical, attacked his ideas; and Galileo was less than diplomatic in his replies to their criticism. In early 1616, a group of Roman Catholic scholars debated this topic, deciding that heliocentricism should be taught only as a useful aid to calculation. Galileo agreed to do exactly that, and did so for the next sixteen years.

In 1632, Galileo published Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems , which had an intelligent person defend a heliocentric system and a person named "Simplicio" defend a geocentric one. Galileo could not (and did not) deny writing this book; his name was on it. The only issue was whether the book promoted an idea that he had earlier agreed not to promote. Galileo claimed it did not, but his defense was rejected. The proof of this crime was pretty clear to anyone who read the book.

Why do you think the catholic church objected to the galileos theories so strongly?

He was charged with heresy, a serious crime in those days, for contradicting the church's belief that the Earth is at the centre of the Universe. The church said that if there was proof of this idea, they would have to have a rethink. But in court Galileo could produce no proof and he recanted. But later in the 17th century after Galileo's lifetime scientific discoveries led everyone to accept that the Sun is at the centre of the solar system (but not the Universe).

How can the UCR help public safety officials predict and prevent future crime?

The Uniform Crime Reporting System can help public safety officials predict and prevent future crimes because it is relaible for keeping crime reports for the entire nation. So if Public safety officals pay close attention to the statistics of the report they can predict where, when, and time (Ie. Season, month, night or day) a crime will most likely take place. The UCR can help public saftety officials prevent future crime because with knowing the predictor factors of the crime they can most likely set up more patrols to prevent the crime from taking place.
