left upper quadrant

lower back.
I have had four kidney stones, the largest being 3mm. That stone had me laid up on the couch eating vicodin for three weeks. So unless you have an 8mm wide ureter, I would get ready for some serious pain.
The kidney attached to that ureter would not function properly. uremia could develop.
You can live with just one but the other kidney would have to be removed or the drainage of urine from that kidney would have to be rerouted.
No. Kidney stone under 4mm are likely to pass without minor surgery. Anything above that would cause severe pain and would likely need a doctor or urologist to remove. There are many different procedures that can be done. I had a 7mm stone and had to have surgery for removal. I beg to differ here...upto 6mm stones are nto to be touched and they are supposed to come out on their own. Drink lots of fluid and avoid foods causing stones.
I had shock waves to crush a large calcium stone growing in my ureter. It didn't work, but I guess it would be according to the size, and where it is located, and what type of stone it is. Check with your urologist. All I do know is they can be extreemly painfull.
Any stone would be harmful
Depends on the exact location of the stone. I had a large stone growing, and attached about midway down in my left ureter. The urologists at the VA Hospital in Houston put me through various operations attempting to remove the stone. They went in through my penis and tried to "Jab" it loose and was unsuccessful, then they tried to use high power ultrasound to break it up and was unsuccessful, then they went in through my back with open surgery and through my kidney and into the ureter and manually extracted the stone. I don't know the exact method that would be best for you, but a lot if pain was involved. Local anesthetics were used because I had to be awake while the surgery was being done. This was a very large calcium stone.
just sell the whole kidney... win win
nephro -meaning kidney palpation- that would be the feeling and touching the kidneys KUB - Kidney, Ureter and Bladder x-ray See the link below for further details from the Johns Hopkins Hospital web site
In 2009 I had a Kidney stone removed in a two hour operation that was the same size as a Golf Ball. What would that be in metric! I have just found out that in the same Kidney I now have a 13mm stone plus a cyst.
Pain in your lower left back is very likely a kidney problem, but I would suspect a kidney stone, rather than a kidney infection. Having a kidney stone does not interfere with urination. Cancer is also a possibility, but check for kidney stone first, before you panic.
