No. Kidney stone under 4mm are likely to pass without minor surgery. Anything above that would cause severe pain and would likely need a doctor or urologist to remove. There are many different procedures that can be done. I had a 7mm stone and had to have surgery for removal. I beg to differ here...upto 6mm stones are nto to be touched and they are supposed to come out on their own. Drink lots of fluid and avoid foods causing stones.

I assume you made a typo, since I doubt your stone is 8 meters in diameter. I was told by my urologist that a stone greater than 5mm cannot pass into the ureter, however a couple of weeks ago, a CAT scan during an emergency room visit for pain revealed a 7 mm stone trapped in my ureter, where the ureter bends just before reaching the bladder. A doctor had prescribed flomax to help me pass the stone because I could not afford a third surgery without insurance. With my 7 mm stone, there is still enough room in my ureter for urine to leak around the stone, so I believe it is possible for you to pass your 8 mm stone.

What causes a kidney stone?

Yes, kidney stones that become large or become lodged in the kidney or lower in the urinary tract, can sometimes cause problems with the kidney. A stone that blocks the flow of urine, left too long, can result in the death of the kidney or damage to the urinary tract. A kidney stone itself can be telling you that you already have a problem with your kidney. Crystals normally are formed when urine is made, especially in a dehydrated patient; however, when crystals grow and become a stone, it can be because of a kidney problem that is already present.

Do kidney stones block conceiving?

A kidney stone itself will not prevent conception, however the condition that resulted in the stone may cause difficulties conceiving.

If you have Pain in your lower left back what could it be someone suggested its a kidney infection but you have no trouble going to the toilet any other suggestions?

Pain in your lower left back is very likely a kidney problem, but I would suspect a kidney stone, rather than a kidney infection. Having a kidney stone does not interfere with urination. Cancer is also a possibility, but check for kidney stone first, before you panic.

What are the symptoms of kidney stones in the bladder?

There are no symptoms for kidney stones once they reach the bladder. They are effectively on their way out of the body through the urethra. When lodged in the ureter on the way to the bladder, kidney stones generate two major symptoms. The primary one is moderate to severe pain felt in the lower back, which increases unless the stone passes. A second common symptom is the urge to urinate when the bladder is already empty. The first sign, which is usually apparent only to those who have already experienced a kidney stone, is a small twinge of discomfort on either side of the lower back (the side the stone may form in). This can also be caused by thickening of kidney fluids, triggered by insufficient water intake or by certain compounds removed by the kidney. In men a kidney stone can cause bad pain at times in the testicles if it's moving and regular pain in the urethra which means pain in the penis. This also happens if there is a stone in the bladder

Can you have Crohn's disease and kidney stones?

Oh yes. It is quite common. Since Crohns can effect any part of the digestive system often the pain from kidney stones can be misdiagnosed until the stone is passed or lodged and needs removal.
