To teach within the public school system in the United States at the pre-K through high school levels, you must have a bachelor's degree in a teacher education program from a regionally accredited college or university and state teacher certification. This would take approximately four years to complete as a full-time student, provided you take the program as prescribed by the college or university. Individuals who already have at least a bachelor's degree but not in an education program, can obtain certification to teach specific courses through the Alternative Route Program within the state they wish to teach.

To be a teacher you need a teaching credential. The first thing for a geography teacher would get a 4 year degree in science/geography. Next, would be to enter a teacher education program, take education classes, do student teaching, go through a fingerprint clearance, and complete the requirements for the credential which includes any testing. Today, at least in CA, geography is not taught as a separate subject so you may want to check with your local college/districts to find out if a geography teacher is really used in the schools. Also be ready to do sports or any clubs as part of your teaching duties.

How do you overcome crushes on teachers?

You didn't say if you were in elementary school or high school. Once a student is no longer a minor (not in school) and the teacher is single they can date away from school. It's not uncommon for a student to have a crush on a teacher and I had a crush on one teacher in high school. We all know by law nothing will ever come of it, but one can fantasize. You move on and get busy with your friends and eventually you will meet someone that you'll fall in love with and the crush on the teacher will be a mere memory.
