In General, upon Completion of Primary and secondary Flight Training, you will have put in on average of 12-14 months. After two years as an Ensign (O-1) you would be promoted to LTjg (O-2) then after two years you would be up for promotion to LT (O-3). At which time you will remain and (O-3) for up to 4 years. Most pilots obtain the rank of LCDR (O-4) before their 8th year of Service. Keep in mind these figures are based on the Naval Aviator Career path. I myself was promted to CDR (O-5) in my 13th year of service. And I retired out as a Captain (O-6) with 25 years service, over 6800 flight hours and nearly 700 carrier aressted landings.
His current Rank is Admiral of the Fleet

The rank of "Commodore" is an honorary one, not an actual Navy rank (at least not in today's Navy). A Commodore is a Senior Navy Captain who is a Squadron Commander of a group of ships, submarines, aircraft, etc. Though the officer is addressed as "Commodore", he/she still wears the rank of Captain.
No, there is no rank of commander in the Army. In the Army commander is a title, not a rank. In the Navy, there is a rank of Commander, it is the equivalent of Lt Colonel or O-5.

Well, Seamen is the lowest rank in the Navy and they can do only what their rank allows them to do. They could do more but they would have to be commanded by a ranking officer.
The highest rank someone can reach in the Royal Australian Navy is Admiral of the fleet. The Royal Australian Navy was created in 1911.
It depends on the situation - rank superiority is determined based on time of active service, so a Navy Commander in the Naval Reserve with more years at that rank on active duty than an Army Lt. Colonel would outrank him/her, and vice-versa.
