Forests are economically valuable through timber production. They provide wood for building materials, furniture, and paper products, which contribute to local economies and industries.
Germany has extensive coalfields, also agriculture and forests. However, by far its most valuable resource is its people.

No. There's a lot of rain, and some forests, but no rainforest. You only get rainforests in tropical countries, as in, near the equator.... which Britain is not.
Forests are one of Alberta's most valuable resources because Alberta relies heavily on its oil and lumber industry to support its economy. Because Alberta is so rich in forests, it is able to export most of the lumber it produces to the rest of North America and the world, and therefore make a lot of money.

That depends upon where they disappear to. If they are used in construction, the carbon contained in those forests will still remain sequestered. More likely, however, the forests will burn down, as our climate changes. This will release the carbon they contain into the atmosphere, accelerating the rate of global warming.
Gold is less valuable than Topsoil. Yet Gold is now valued more than Topsoil, and Forests. I'd rather ask "How does selective logging protect Forests?"
