Seagulls and pelicans are both marine birds that share similar habitats, often found along Coastlines and near bodies of water. They belong to different families; seagulls are part of the Laridae family, while pelicans belong to the Pelecanidae family. Despite their differences in size, feeding habits, and nesting behaviors, they may often be seen in the same environments, competing for food or nesting sites. Both play important roles in their ecosystems as opportunistic feeders and indicators of environmental health.
A pelican is a bird with a saggy pouch that can scoop fish out of water.

We are watching pelicans diving out on the Capistrano Beach ocean. Almost each pelican has its own seagull. The pelican dives for food and the seagull lands nearby. We cannot see why that is. Any answers?
