According to legend, Yashodhara (or Yasodhara) is the name of the wife of Prince Gautama who later became the Buddha or enlightened one. Gautama left his sleeping wife and son (Rahula) in the middle of the night to seek answers to questions about suffering. Legend again suggests that Yashodhara, Rahula and also a cousin of the Buddha, Ananada became monks in the orders Buddha established after his enlightenment.
