The ancient Syrians is Mesopotamians. Sumerians, Akkad's, Assyrians, Chaldean's and Syrians were the same people in ancient times. They were sun/moon/star worshippers like for example the sun god 'Shamus'. And there was black magic also.
Then later in the Chaldean dynasty, king Nebuchadnezzar took the Jews from Israel and brought them to the Mesopotamian area its also written in The Bible plus father Abraham was born there in a town called Chaldea (today in Iraq) so monotheism to been practiced later on in the Syrian area... and then Syrians also Assyrians and Chaldean converted to Christianity actually they were one of the first who converted to Christianity 50-100 AD. and lastly Islam came to Syria. and then the rest is history
