In the USA, the term "Public education" refers to schooling which is provided and paid for by the government and is basically free to all. A main opponent of this system was a New Yorker named Weaver who, in 1870, questioned the effect this would have on society.
Mormons
This all depends on the individual situation. Some polygamists belong to certain religious groups that restrict or limit formal higher education for women. What girls are taught and how long they are in school varies from group to group. However, most polygamists are independent of any one religious group and allow their children to be educated just as any other child, often in the public school systems.
