The even worse 6.4L it to was produced by international and has many problems just like the 6.0L does. In 2011-2012 Ford is done with international and built their own in house diesel. It's a 6.7L powerstroke and is doing very well with no big issues, yet only time will tell. The other 2 had many problems by now so its looking good, not to mention it has 800Ft of torque.
In my 1986 F350, I replaced a the 6.9 diesel engine with a 1989 7.3 diesel engine. Everything fit. BUT I had to used the glow plug system from the 6.9 system
