Washington's forces started to cross in the evening of Christmas Day but did not finish crossing until about 3am the following morning December 26th, due to horrendous weather.
Delaware River in the early morning hours of December 26, 1776. The crossing was a daring and risky move, as the river was icy and the weather was harsh. However, Washington and his men successfully crossed and surprised the Hessian troops stationed in Trenton, achieving a decisive victory.
