Possibly a V-shaped valley or a U-shaped valley. The U- Shaped valley would have been eroded by a glacier meaning it has a wider and flatter base. But the V-shaped valley would have interlocking spurs, and caves which would turn into corries. So, overall, I would say that the river valley that looks like a crescent would have to be the V-shaped valley.

The last quarter looks like half a moon, whereas a crescent moon (aka waning crescent or waxing crescent ) looks like a quarter of the moon. So no they are not the same. type in on Google "moon phases" and it'll show pictures of all the moon phases.
It looks a lot like Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains in the UP of Michigan, but I'm not 100% sure.
