There are several tributaries to the Mississippi River. Five of these tributaries are the Missouri, Ohio, Arkansas, Black, and Red Rivers.
A tributary is any smaller river that has a source from a larger river. For example, there are several rivers that flow from the Mississippi River on its way to the Gulf of Mexico. These smaller rivers are called tributaries.
Due to its great length, there are many tributaries of the Mississippi River. Five of these tributaries are the St. Croix River, the Missouri River, the Ohio River, the Rock River, and the White River.
