Musician Bob Geldof played the main character, "Pink". The character was essentially a metaphor for bassist/lyricist-turned-band-dictator Roger Waters, specifically his feelings toward losing his father as an infant, his antipathy towards the British education system, and his feelings of isolation as the band became world-famous.

At the time, the Floyd were not a world-famous band; they were mainly popular in their local circles in Cambridge at first.
