The role of Mormons today in America's society is be a good examples to everyone they meet. Teach our children, family members and friends by example to be morally strong, honest people. Mormons don't proclaim to be perfect but we do know what is right and wrong. This does not mean we always do what is right because we make mistakes too. Again, our role is to teach and live our lives in a way that we show love, and humility to the society.
Well, the Whitmans are a family, and the Mormons are a religion, so they can't really be compared. I know Whitmans who are Mormon, though.
