What role did the media play during the Korean War?

The morning after major battles, they would take a flatbed truck and drive through the battlefields and load up the dead and dieing and what body parts they could find and take back to field hosp. tents and sort out what went where. Sounds gruesome but that's what my father did in the Medical Corp. in the war and he never talked about it , ever........and it never left him till he , recently, left this earth.
