S.S. stands for Schutzstaffel which in english is protective squad. In the Book Night the S.S. are concentration and deathcamp guards. Not all S.S. soldiers were in concentration/death camps another division the Waffen S.S. was a tactical special forces unit who fought to the death. The Waffen S.S. had their names slandered by the rutheless and vicious S.S. guards. The S.S. are Hitlers protective unit and were very advanced in millitary combat, they were the equivilent to todays Navyseals in world war two except the S.S. was more of a division of the Army and like a special forces of the primary military.
