It doesn't ether you can believe all of the scientific evidence that has been collected over the years or you can believe all of this superstitious crud.
Science relies on the laws of physics. Faith and religion have no bearing on the laws of physics, unless you believe God created the laws of physics. While you can believe in God and be a scientist, it's hard to believe in the Big Bang theory and Creationism, too. And, modern physics now believes that God had no part in the Big Bang. That said, God and faith can still play a large part in our lives, just not when it comes to science.
Well sure science does play a political role. Science affects how people think about the world or more importantly how the world works and how things in the world interact. For instance ever since the theory of evolution that was proposed by Darwin people have used the excuse for cut throat business policies.
Science was not so much a contributor to the renaissance, but a beneficiary of the changes, after the renaisscance science was able to continue withuout much prosecution from the church. While some discoveries helped feed the rennaiscance they were not directly related. Finnaly science has never been a way to disobey religion, religion simply branded science disobedience because it had a pesky tendency to call into question a few of the central collums of belief.
