because religion molds one's value system and what one believes in. this is why the statements made by rev. wright implicates obama's beliefs so this is why it was given so much attention by the media.

Religion is not suppose to have any influence on politics, they are suppose to be separate entities. Religion can cause people to try to put laws, or ordinances in place that are related to religious personal beliefs instead of what is best for the community.

The issues of race, creed, color and religion often play a major role in elections far beyond issues of importance in policy and politics. Petty issues like Thomas Dewey's mustache may have cost him the election against Truman. McCain's age played against him against Obama's youth despite issues like the race card and McCain's sterling Military record.

The Nixon versus JFk race may have been decided by who looked better on Television.

Knowledge of FDR's physical disabilities were unknown to the rank and file voter and could have ended his career.

Infidelity, sexuality and religion seem to be the big challenges in politics today. What election you were interested in doesn't matter. Elections at any level are based on opinions more than on facts. Americans are fickle.
