In 1 Corinthians chapter 13, Paul emphasizes that without love, all the various gifts of the Spirit discussed in Chapter 12 (wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues) and specifically in chapter 14, tongues and prophesying, are of no avail. Chapter 13 is one of Paul's premier teachings of Christianity. Chapter 13 is more potent for the building of the church than any, or all, of the various manifestations of God's power. Paul sums it up in 1Cor. 13:3 by saying "And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have no charity, I am nothing."
