$1000-$2000 dollars in savings is a good idea. Some airlines do not pay for training (that's right, you train for free) or initial relocation to your assigned home base. If this is the case, you will need money to relocate, cover first month's rent/deposit, etc. However, the airline may cover your transportation to the training base and your meals and hotel during training.
