He graduated from High School (the Punahou School) in his native Hawaii in 1979 and then went first to Occidental College in Los Angeles, transferred to Columbia University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1983; he then worked for five years before attending Harvard Law School, graduating with academic honors in 1991.

Starting at age 6, Obama attended a Catholic school in Indonesia. At age 8, he attended a public school in Indonesia, nominally a Muslim school, which is where the "Muslim" tempest in a teapot comes form.

At age 10, he left his mother and Muslim stepfather behind in Indonesia, moving to Honolulu to live with his mom's parents. His grandmother was a vice president for the Bank of Hawaii and could afford to send him to the prestigious private college preparatory, Punahou School, still considered the finest school in Hawaii. He attended there from fifth grade, and graduated from high school there in 1979.

Obama then attended Occidental College, a fine liberal arts college in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1981. He admittedly was a bit of a party animal there. He apparently became a bit more serious his sophomore year and transferred to Columbia University in New York City for his junior and senior years. He graduated from Columbia in 1983.

After graduation, Obama worked in New York in a corporate position for a year, then a nonprofit position for another year before making the fateful decision to move to Chicago in 1985. He worked from 1985 to 1988 as a director of the "Developing Communities Project," a small-time nonprofit that seems to have been started for him to run.

From 1988 to 1991, Obama attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude and was editor of the law review. So the guy is very smart and had the finest possible education from fifth grade on!

He attended kindergarten in Hawaii at the Noelani Elementary School, and then briefly attended a Catholic school (The St. Francis of Assisi school) during grades 1-3 while living in Indonesia with him mom and step-dad; he also briefly attended a public school there, the Besuki School. But the school he attended the longest was the Punahou School, in Honolulu, when he moved back to Hawaii-- he attended that school from grade five until he graduated from high school. Later, he went to college at Occidental College in Los Angeles; graduated from Columbia in New York City in 1983, and graduated from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1991.
