A series of experiments and observations confirmed the molecular structure of DNA, its role in heredity, and its method of replication. As usually happens with a fundamental scientific breakthrough, it neatly tied together and answered many existing questions but raised many more new ones, so it's a bit of a stretch to say that it "brought all the pieces" together.
