Some say that he must have been born during the warmer months, because Luke's Gospel says that poor shepherds were watching their flocks in open fields. However, shepherds were a common motif in ancient stories of divine birth, being also present in the birth narrative of the gods Mithras and Osiris. Biblical scholars say that the story of the shepherds is unlikely to be true, so we can not rely on this passage for a guide to what season it was when Jesus was born. We simply do not know in what season Jesus was born.

Currently the most serious scholars and Bible scholars agree that Jesus was not born on December 25 as the Christian tradition tells us, why because The Bible says that the shepherds had their flocks out in the field, implying that this happened before October

An interesting study in "Halley's Bible Handbook" traces Jesus' birth through the birth of the child of Mary's cousin, Elisabeth... one, John the Baptist.

Since the "beginning" of each year varies anywhere between an "early" or "late" spring [with God's year starting when the barley is in "green ears"] -- All we're told in Luke's account of John's birth, is that his father, Zacharias, was a priest "of the course of Abia" or "Abijah." [Luke 1:5]

I Chronicles tells us that in the duties of the Temple, "Abijah" [New Testament; Abia] had the "EIGHTH COURSE." A "course" is a continuous "week-long" duty in the Temple... in Zacharias' case; "...his lot was to burn incense when he went into the Temple of the Lord." (Luke 1:9)

The week-long "courses" of the Temple priests began with "the beginning of each new year: in the SPRING" [when God's year begins with the people preparing for the Passover - Ex.12:2].... whether it was an "early spring," a "late spring"... or somewhere in between. This would vary from year to year... but, generally speaking... the responsibilities of Zacharias' "course" would have put him in the Temple during the "eighth week" of the year: or "mid to late spring."

Zacharias' ordeal in the Temple resulted in the pregnancy of Elisabeth sometime after he returned home [read Luke 1]. Allowing for "travel time" [however far he might have lived from the Temple] following his "course" -- John the Baptist's "conception" would have been sometime in the late spring/early summer.

We're then told that in the "sixth month of Elisabeth's pregnancy" the angel Gabriel visited Mary to inform her of her selection by God to bear the Christ.

"...behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her..." (Luke 1:36).

Therefore... according to the biblical account... Mary would have "conceived" Jesus in Elisabeth's SIX MONTH... or sometime in the winter. And our December by our calendar today is not a bad general guess. Unfortunately, for the sake of the modern global tradition... that's for Jesus' "conception" -- not His "birth."

Following this logic through to Jesus' birth day... we're looking at it occurring sometime around the FALL... with scripture "hinting" that Jesus may well have been born on the "first day of the Feast of Tabernacles" [the observance of which also varies from year to year, according to when the year begins in the spring -- generally falling by our calendar today sometime in SEPTEMBER/early OCTOBER]. In which case [if this is true] Jesus' circumcision, according to the law, would have been on the "eighth day" or "the Last Great Day" of the feast [see Lev.12:3 & John 7:37].

The biblical "hint" that this may well be the case is found in the "wording" John uses regarding "Jesus' birth":

"And the WORD was made flesh, and DWELT among us..." (John 1:14).

The word John was "inspired" to use -- "dwelt" -- in this passage is unique to any other reference to any other birth in the Bible.

The "Literal Bible" says: "And the Word flesh became. And PITCHED {his} TENT among us..." (LIT John 1:14). Of this, Strong's Definitions says of "dwelt":

"skenoo (pronounced skay-no'-o): to tent or encamp, i.e. (figuratively) to occupy (as a mansion) or (specifically) to reside (as God did in the Tabernacle of old, a symbol of protection and communion): KJV--dwell." (Strong's Definitions)

"Dwelling in booths" [Lev.23:42] or "tents" or some other "temporary dwelling place" is the practiced observance of the seven-day Feast of Tabernacles [which pictures in God's plan the thousand year rule of Christ].

The "Mongomery New Testament" says: "And the Word became flesh and TENTED with us...".

"Young's Bible" says: "And the Word became flesh, and DID TABERNACLE among us...".

In the Bible... "birthdays" are revealed as an observance of pagans. The two cited in the Bible were those of Pharaoh and Herod.

God, on the other hand, commands men to observe Jesus' DEATH DAY in the "memorial"... the annual "REMEMBRANCE" of the Passover -- the FIRST COMMANDED HOLY DAY OF THE YEAR [in the Spring of each year] that Jesus Christ FULFILLED ON THAT DAY in the year that He was crucified.

"...THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME." (Luke 22:19)

"...For even Christ OUR PASSOVER is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the Feast..." (I Cor.5:7-8).

So, although the Bible doesn't tell us, specifically, the date of Jesus' birth -- biblical "evidence" strongly suggests that Jesus was born in the fall of the year -- very likely on the "first day of the Feast of Tabernacles," which occurs at different times each year in the fall sometime between our SEPTEMBER and EARLY OCTOBER.
