There are many very severe side effects of Accutane. In fact, the original manufacturer stopped making the drug in 2009 due to lawsuits over severe and chronic illnesses associated with its use. Among the worst effects are suicide attempts, severe birth defects, and severe digestive system disorders.

∙ 14y agoI have been on acutane for about a month and have experienced the following side effects:
Headaches (only the first few days)
Throwing Up (only the first few days)
Dryness of the fingers (weird, I know)
Dryness of the face and scalp
And an outbreak of acne (will go away after the first few months says my doctor)
Other than that I haven't expereince anything else. I'm the type of person who always experiences the side effects when taking new medicine. Go for it though...it is working i can already see it.

∙ 11y agoAccutane does not cause side affects for all people fortuanitly. Will you get the side affects that come along with this magic pill? First, do you have a family member or close relative taking accutane? If so, see if they got any side affects while on it and ask what happend to them. Chances are, if nothing bad happend to them while taking accutane, then nothing will happen to you so don't worry. Accutane is one of those things that actually really work. Lay off all the cheap drug-store products, if you want your acne completley gone and your skin looking great, then your only option really is accutane. Accutane is one of those products that is guarenteed to work and very worth its price.

Will Accutane worsen your bipolar disorder?
Initially drugs like Accutane were linked to depression and suicide. Recent studies have shown this may not be true however. One can't ignore the possibility that most people with acne severe enough for Accutane likely already feel depressed about their condition. Compile that with the drug side effects or even worse if the drug doesn't clear their acne. Any of those factors could contribute to statistics showing a correlation between Accutane and depression/suicide. Given all of that there is no way to tell how every person will react to any drug. There is always a possibility of bad reaction, but I wouldn't say that this is something that would make this treatment option out of the question. Ask your physician.
