Wyoming is considered to be a quadrilateral but it is not a square or a rectangle.

From the north border to the south border Wyoming is 276 miles (444 km).
From the east to the west border Wyoming is 365 miles (587 km) at its south end and 342 miles (550 km) at its north end, so Wyoming is neither a square nor a rectangle as it does not have 4 right angles.

Due to surveying inaccuracies during the 19th century, Wyoming's legal border deviates from the true latitude and longitude lines by up to half a mile (0.8 km) in some spots, so Wyoming is not an exact rectangle, either.

The Territory of Wyoming was created by an act of Congress on July 25, 1868 from parts of the Dakota, Idaho and Utah Territories with a simple designation of latitude and longitude lines. The borders for the Territory of Wyoming were specified in the designating legislation. Wyoming kept the same borders when it became a state on July 10, 1890.

Wyoming's borders are lines of latitude, 41°N and 45°N, and longitude, 104°3'W and 111°3'W (27° W and 34° W of the Washington Meridian), making the shape of the state a latitude-longitude quadrangle.
