As an RN, I feel that it is important for a hospital administrator to be "in touch" with the employees that are involved in direct patient care. Have an "open door" policy. Attend staff meetings. Get involved with their concerns. Let them know that, although healthcare is a business, the care of the patient is a top priority, secondary to making a profit. Understand that each patient is a person with individual needs, not just another bed "filled".
