The supervisor should follow the rules and policies that the organization has for those circumstances. There is usually either a specific human resources contact or a specific person who deals with these. Because workman's compensation comes into play with injury, the supervisor should document the event as best as possible and avoid making promises about how the person will be cared for. If the employee has absences connected with the injury, work closely with human resources to cover responsibilities. Like FMLA, time must be denoted properly without knowing specifically why the person is absent that day. There is probably more to this than I have said, so, again be sure to work closely with your company's representative.
