Divers and snorkelers out of the water should keep in mind that the wet suit being worn must be removed as soon as possible to prevent dehydration. Diver's suits are made out of a material that does not absorb water, therefore it cannot let the skin breathe.

When someone takes a snorkeling vacation, he or she has signed up for an adventure of a lifetime. When snorkeling, one is able to view underwater life while wearing a snorkeling mask and tube that allows the swimmer to breathe while swimming. Snorkeling vacations can be accompanied by scuba diving, and other activities at a tropical resort. Many newly-wed couples go snorkeling during their honeymoon. This is the ideal vacation for hot weather; however, it may be enjoyed during cooler weather as well. When on a snorkeling vacation, the swimmer is able to view all sorts of sights such as coral and sea life. Many snorkeling vacations are held near a coral reef or wreckage sight. These sights can be found off of the coast of many shorelines up and down the US or any country that borders an ocean. Snorkelers will most likely not be satisfied if there is nothing to see and if the water conditions are not suitable. Like any other recreation, snorkeling has its risks. The snorkeler must be aware of other divers, boat drivers, and jet skis. The snorkeler area in many locations is the same area shared by boats, jet skis, and wind sailors. Unlike motor boats, wind-dependent boats are not heard by others in the water, thus posing a greater risk for snorkelers. Some places mark off the territory for snorkelers so that they may be safer. Sun screen is advised for snorkelers, as their backs are exposed to the sun. Poisonous or pointy reefs should be navigated around carefully and preferably with protection gloves. Snorkelers should never go out into the water alone because many dangers are present for individual snorkelers such as hyperventilation or dehydration. Drinking plenty of water before going into the water is a great way to keep the snorkeler from cramping while swimming. When choosing a location to take the snorkeling vacation, warmer waters with fewer waves and currents are best. There are several tropical resorts to choose from and some snorkeling vacation spots separate from resorts. One should choose the spot that suits them best on land and on water so that total satisfaction and entertainment needs are met.
Over 5000 years ago swimmers used hollow reeds to breathe while searching for sea food in shallow water.
Because fish have gills and can breathe under water and humans do not
Snorkel fins are used during snorkeling activities, and are worn on the feet. While they are not necessary, many snorkelers find them useful, as they allow one to move more quickly when swimming underwater.
Free divers risk the danger of drowning while underwater, especially in areas requiring divers to descend to extreme depths. All pearl divers risk encountering dangers under the water, including sharks and other sea life. Many Australian pearl divers perished during storms that claimed the pearling boats while the divers were still on the bottom. Beyond environmental hazards, pearl divers also have to cope with the "bends," a condition caused when rapid decompression from quick surface ascent causes nitrogen bubbles to form in the bloodstream.
It is very common for people who are not confident swimmers to use a life jacket while snorkeling. In many tour boats, life jackets are given to everyone. In shallow water that, in an emergency, you could stand up in, they are not necessary. (Though there could be a lot of good snorkeling at that depth.)
The main feature is they use a self contained breathing system under water and they are trained to use the equipment. They also train in controling the bouyancy while under water.

Drift snorkeling refers to simply floating passively on the sea surface while using snorkeling gear to observe below. It differs from "active" snorkeling in that the snorkelers do not use fins to propel themselves along, unless they see something they want a closer look at. This is a good technique in certain circumstances, such as when there is a current to move you along AND a nearby boat drifting along with you. Without the "rescue boat" nearby, it can put you in a difficult or even dangerous situation because you may be focused upon the world beneath the water and be unaware of how far you have gone or even where you are.
