Stay with the boat
If you are close enough to shore; swim, then report.
If too far out; try to climb onto the boat or at least stay close and hold on to it. It is easier to spot a boat than a person lying in the water. And you use less energy so you will live longer wich in turn increases your chanses of survival.
When your boat capsizes you need to stay with your boat
If you have a small boat that capsizes in a stream you should try to roll it over. If the stream is shallow this should be easy.

Hang onto the boat or climb onto it. DO NOT leave the boat.

If your boat capsizes and floats away, there are various things that you can do. The most important thing is to try and float and shout for help. If you are not very far from the shore, you can swim out of the water.
If a persons boat capsizes and remains upside down, they can use it as a flotation device. This can help a person stay above water until help arrives.

Stay with the boat. It will float, help you to stay afloat, and it is MUCH easier to find a boat+ you than it is to find you, alone.
