1) fomal start (e.g. dear Mr or Mrs ?) always use second name.
2)introduce the theme or point of your letter (e.g. i am wriing to persuade you that...)
3) include points for and against your issue (if its to make something happen like allowing girls onto the boys football team.)
also, throughout your letter, make sure that you use the PEE method.
