I found a catalytic converter for a 1.9L for $332 shipped on eBay. I think it was listed around $360 and I asked for a lower price. It was a direct-fit, bolt-on kind. The gasket it came with was wrong, so I re-used the original...
I had to buy jack stands and some hex wrenches, but was able to do the work myself at almost no cost (a couple hours time when you do it the first time).

Remove fasteners holding exhaust manifold to head.
