The pH of salt water is of concern to two kinds of people. Seamen loading cargo onto a ship take an interest in the pH level, since the higher the pH level, the saltier the water and the saltier the water, the higher the ship rides in the water and the more heavily it can be loaded. Salt water aquarium owners are also interested, since the pH levels in the salt water aquarium have a direct effect on the health of the aquarium's ecosystem.

When considering pH, rather than having a goal of a specific reading, you should have a goal of stability.

Although 7.0 may be the optimal pH level for a given fish, the same fish will likely thrive at a constant level anywhere between 6.6 and 7.4. It may even survive at constant levels between 6.2 and 7.8. It is the drastic swings which can occur in pH that we try to prevent.

You should be to establish a very consistent pH level, even if that level is slightly outside the "ideal" pH reading for a given species. In other words, a constant pH of 6.6 is better than a pH value which fluctuates between 6.6 and 7.0, even for a fish which prefers a 7.0 reading.

There is no standard level. You have to measure it to find out. It usually falls between 6 and 8.

The pH value of salt water is 8.

Does salt residue from beach pebbles affect the pH levels of an aquarium?

The residue on the pebbles is not just salt. It contains very many elements that go into sea water. The pH will be effected (raised) if sufficient sea salt is added.

What can change the pH of rain?

I think its because of the salt or of the chemicals in the sea water...

What is the pH level of common salt?

AnswerSalt on its own has no pH level but when put in water, the solution contains free ions of Na+ and Cl-. Both ions do not react with water, as a result the solution is neutral. It possesses a pH of 7 when in a temperature of 25oC.

Is that salt concentration affects pH in sea water or fresh water?

No; the absorbed carbon dioxide is important.

What pH does salt have?

Salt has a pH of 7, because it's neutral.

Level salt pH?

Table salt (if that is meant by questioneer) is a neutral salt. pH=7

Does salt water have a pH?

"Does Salt Change the pH of Water? It depends upon the pH of the water into which the salt is being introduced. Chemically speaking, salt is a basecompound, falling smack in the center of the acid-alkaline spectrum (at 7). If introduced to water which has a high pH, the pH might be lowered incrementally toward the center of the pH spectrum depending on how much water there was and how much salt was introduced. If the water had a very low pH, making it very acidic, the salt would increase the pH toward the center of the spectrum."

Why is salt neutral pH?

This pH is around 7.

What is the pH of table salt?

its neutral, or a pH of 7

What is the pH level of salt water?

It depends on the chemical composition of the salt. If it is acidic or basic it will change the pH. The common salt (NaCl) is neutral in nature so it doesn't change the pH.
